For the first time, the Unit Collective is partnering with Bedlam Theatre and the Seward Neighborhood Group to create an evening of short pieces inspired by real people. Each playwright is assigned 2 members of the Seward Community to hang out with and, based on those two meetings, they will create a short play.

The evening will be preceded by free food prepared by this month’s producer: Anton Jones The performance will be followed by a lively discussion around the question:
What is the connection between art and community organizing?

As always, the performance is FREE (though donations are greatly appreciated).

‪The Seward Market Mural teaser‬‏ - a documentary by Nick Longtin & Dan Sundquist

As part of a Minneapolis community project, members of the Seward/Longfellow neighborhoods are creating a mural over the site of a 2010 triple homicide. A lot of work has gone into the planning and doing of this mural. My friend, Nick Longtin, and I are creating a short documentary in attempts to capture the creativity and altruism of this project.

Hennepin County Medicine Collection Event - April 30

Medicine Collection Event - April 30

Opportunity for Hennepin County residents to properly and safely dispose of their unwanted, expired and unused medicines

Clean out your medicine cabinet. Medicine Collection Event is April 30 in Brooklyn Center.

Hennepin County and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office are providing residents the opportunity to properly and safely dispose of their unwanted, expired and unused medicines. There is no charge for bringing in medications.

Who: For Hennepin County residents only Where: Brooklyn Center
Brooklyn Center City Hall, 6301 Shingle Creek Parkway

(use north entrance at the intersection of Shingle Creek Parkway and I-94) When: Saturday, April 30
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Medications in the home have become a problem for a number of reasons: Unwanted, expired and unused medications in the home pose safety and health threats and can lead to abuse or poisoning.

Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem, especially among teens. Most teenagers abusing prescription drugs get them from family and friends – and from the home medicine cabinet. Disposing of medications in the garbage or flushing them can harm the environment.

Bring your bottles/packages of medications in a clear plastic bag. Medications that can be brought include:
 Prescription and over-the-counter medications
 Vitamins and supplements
 Pet medications

Keep medications in the original packaging so they can be identified. If the medication has been removed from the original container, put it in a clear plastic bag and write the name and dosage of the medicine on the bag if you know it. Medicines will be accepted in any form – ampoules, blister packs, capsules, creams, and others.

Items not accepted: needles or sharps; medicines from businesses, including health-care facilities. When you arrive at the event, staff will assist and direct you. Follow the signs, stay in your car and stay in line. If turnout is high, you may need to wait in line.
